Taiwan Quick Take: Small direct link inaugurated

    Thursday, Jun 08, 2006, Page 3

The direct link between Kinmen and Quanzhou (泉州) will be officially inaugurated today. The first voyage will be made by a steamship called the Quanchou, which has the capacity to carry 248 passengers. A one-way trip takes about 65 minutes and costs NT$720 for adults and NT$360 for children. Officials from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the Mainland Affairs Council and the Quanzhou City Government were to attend an inauguration ceremony at Kinmen this morning. The Kinmen-Quanzhou link is the third so-called "small link," with the others being those between Kinmen and Xiamen (廈門) and between Matzu (馬祖) and Mawei(馬尾). Starting tomorrow, four one-way voyages between Kinmen and Quanzhou will be available, with the first departing at 9am.
