Taiwan Quick Take: MOFA mum on NSC officials
Tuesday, Jun 06, 2006, Page 3
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday declined to comment on whether two top National Security Council (NSC) officials relieved of their positions following President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) decision to relinquish some of his powers will be dispatched abroad to fill important diplomatic posts. Following the president's decision last week, the NSC decided to transfer two of its deputy secretaries-general, Parris Chang (張旭成) and Tsai Ming-hsien (蔡明憲), to other duties. The Chinese-language Liberty Times newspaper, the Taipei Times' sister newspaper, reported yesterday that Chang and Tsai would be sent abroad to head two of the nation's overseas representative offices. MOFA spokesperson Michel Lu (呂慶龍) yesterday said the ministry had no information on the dispatch of the two former NSC officials, only saying that decisions regarding the dispatch of heads of the overseas representative offices have to be made in accordance with due procedure.
