Taiwan Quick Take: Temblor shakes Lanyu

An undersea earthquake measuring 5.1 in magnitude rocked the southern tip of the nation yesterday but did not cause any damage or casualties, officials said. The undersea tremor struck at 8:39am with its epicenter 62km southeast of Lanyu (蘭嶼), an island off the coast of Taitung, the Seismology Center said. A seismologist said the quake was felt only in Lanyu and in the town of Hengchun (恆春) on the southernmost tip of Taiwan.
