Taiwan Quick Take: MAC chief visits Japan
Tuesday, Jun 06, 2006, Page 3
Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Chairman Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) departed for Japan on Sunday for a three-day visit, mainly to exchange views with Japanese strategists and political figures on cross-strait relations and interactions between Taiwan, Japan and China, MAC officials said yesterday. Describing Wu's visit to Japan as "routine," MAC officials said he would focus on explaining the government's position on cross-strait and Taiwan-Japan-China relations in order to prevent Beijing from misleading Japan, the US and the EU on related issues. Wu is maintaining a low profile during his visit in light of Taiwan's difficult diplomatic situation and given that China maintains formal diplomatic relations with Japan and other important countries, MAC officials said.
