KMT candidate Hau says he's confident of victory in Taipei

Former Environmental Protection Administration director-general Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌), who won the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT's) primary held on Saturday to decide the party's candidate for Taipei mayor, said yesterday he is confident of winning the year-end election.

Hau made the remarks after calling on KMT Legislator John Chiang (蔣孝嚴) to support him. Chiang withdrew from the primary last month.

Chiang said he would fully support Hau in the upcoming election as he won the candidacy through the party's democratic process, and suggested that Hau try to help the party heal "wounds" caused by the primary.

In response, Hau said that he would do his utmost to promote unity and harmony among all KMT members in order to win the Taipei mayoral election.

Hau said that he had visited former Taipei deputy mayor Yeh Chin-chuan (葉金川) to ask for his support. Yeh withdrew from the primary on April 9.
