President Chen Shui-bian (³¯¤ô«ó) should reconfigure the nomination screening panel for the Control Yuan if he plans to submit a new list of nominations to the nation's highest watchdog body to the legislature for approval, a People First Party (PFP) legislative caucus whip said yesterday. PFP whip Lee Hung-chun (§õÂE¶v) made the remarks when asked to comment on news reports that the president was thinking of revising the list of 29 nominees for Control Yuan members. The list was rejected by the Legislative Yuan on the grounds that many of the nominees were supposedly not up to the expectations of the public. Lee said that the president not only needs to revise his list of nominees, but should also rejig the five-member nomination screening panel. The opposition-controlled legislature has blocked the nominations at its Procedure Committee, leaving the Control Yuan without members since Feb. 1 last year. |
