Taiwan Quick Take: Hsieh backs Yeh

    Thursday, May 18, 2006, Page 4

Former premier Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) said yesterday that he would stay in Kaohsiung to campaign for the Democratic Progressive Party's candidate in the Kaohsiung mayoral race. Hsieh said he did not support the candidacy of former Council of Labor Affairs Chairwoman Chen Chu (陳菊) because he did not think that Chen could win the election. Instead, he said he supported Acting Kaohsiung Mayor Yeh Chu-lan (葉菊蘭), who he felt was an ideal candidate. Hsieh also said that he would persuade DPP Legislator Kuan Bi-ling (管碧玲), who has registered to take part in the party's primary, to withdraw.
