Taiwan Quick Take: Man jailed in `ghostly' retrial

    Sunday, May 14, 2006, Page 3

A court has sentenced a man to 15 years in jail for killing his girlfriend in a retrial said to have been prompted by the victim's ghost, cable channel TVBS reported yesterday. Issuing its verdict on Friday, the Taichung District Court found Wang Chi-cheng (王淇政), 25, guilty of pushing his girlfriend Chen Chi-hsuan (陳琪瑄), 22, over a bridge and killing her. Wang told police that he and Chen were quarreling on a bridge and that Chen jumped to her death. But Chen's parents claimed their daughter had no reason to commit suicide, and that her ghost kept visiting them to tell them she had been murdered. The trial was re-opened last year at Chen's parents' request.
