Taiwan Quick Take: Chiu Yi sued again

    Sunday, May 14, 2006, Page 3

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Chiu Yi (邱毅) will soon be facing yet another lawsuit. This time, from the president's son-in-law Chao Chien-ming (趙建銘). The Presidential Office yesterday issued a statement saying Chao is planning to file a lawsuit against Chiu soon in a bid to safeguard his personal reputation. Chiu alleged that Chao spent NT$120 million (US$3.8 million) on two apartments, registering them under a different name, last July at NT$90 million less than the market price. The Presidential Office said Chao did look at the complex with his uncle and friends but they did not make a purchase. Chiu claimed the money came from his mother, who Chiu said has raked in NT$300 million via insider trading in 10 months by investing in Taiwan Development Corp.
