South Korean actor Lee Joon-ki received a rousing welcome yesterday from Taiwanese fans who sang Korean songs to welcome him on his first visit to Taipei. Lee, 24, is promoting his movie The King and the Clown, the story of a Korean king who falls in love with a male jester, provoking the jealousy of his concubine. Lee played the jester. More than 200 fans waiting for Lee at CKS International Airport broke into Korean songs when they saw their idol emerge. Lee was wearing large sunglasses and earrings shaped as crosses. South South Korean singers and actors have enjoyed increasing popularity amid a surge in passion across Asia for Korean pop music, movies and soap operas.
