Taiwan Quick Take: Kaohsiung to hire foreigners

    Thursday, May 04, 2006, Page 3

The Kaohsiung City Government will recruit 10 young foreigners to assist the city in handling international affairs in preparation for the World Games to be held in 2009 in Kaohsiung, a city government spokesman said yesterday. The spokesman said Kaohsiung yesterday signed an agreement with the Association Internationale d'Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales in Taiwan (AIESEC in Taiwan) for the recruitment of the interns, who will start their new jobs by the beginning of next month. A special fund of NT$2 million (US$62,500) will be earmarked for the program. The interns will mainly teach foreign languages to the staff of the city's departments of environmental protection, social services, health and news, as well as the Bureau of Human Resources Development, the spokesman said. He added that at the end of their one-year internships, they will write reports on their work, which will be used as reference for future city government policymaking.
