First lady Wu Shu-jen (吳淑珍) has canceled a trip to attend her son Chen Chih-chun's graduation ceremony in the US, and any further decision will be made only after consulting doctors, Presidential Office Deputy Secretary-General Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said yesterday. Cho made the remarks during a committee meeting at the Legislative Yuan. He declined to confirm whether Wu would go abroad for medical treatment. In reply to Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Joanna Lei's (雷倩) criticism regarding Wu's stock gains and her analogy of Wu's charity donations as being like the indulgences formerly sold by the Catholic Church, Cho said that the first family has been making charity donations for years, as they care about disadvantaged people. Cho said the analogy was "unfair and unjust."
