The 2007 World Cocktail Competition to be hosted by Kaohsiung City is expected to increase the visibility of the southern port city in the international arena, Acting Kaohsiung Mayor Yeh Chu-lan (
Yeh made the remarks in an address to participants in the 2006 Golden Cup International Cocktail Competition, organized by the Kaohsiung City Government's Bureau of Cultural Affairs and the Bartenders Association of Taiwan.
She noted that thousands of cocktail experts from 56 countries would gather in Kaohsiung next year to compete in the event, providing excellent opportunities for the city to conduct exchanges with friends from foreign cities.
This year's Golden Cup International Cocktail Competition ended yesterday at the Kaohsiung Cultural Center after a three-day competition among more than 500 entrants competing in six groups.
The eight finalists from abroad were from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
Guests of honor invited to the event included executives of the International Bartenders Association and representatives of its member countries.
Winners were presented with cash, trophies and certificates.
