An official of the Automotive Research and Testing Center in Changhua said yesterday that research on a light-emitting diode (LED) car headlight was entering the final stages, with mass production expected to begin by July. A general manager of the center said that the LED headlight has several advantages over the conventional type, including a 10-fold longer lifespan, the ability to reach full brightness 330 times faster, and 50 percent less energy consumption. He said the biggest challenge was to create an LED headlight that gave enough illumination without compromising on its energy-saving features. The manager noted that the center was now working on a heat sink module prior to putting LED headlight into mass production.
