Taiwan Quick Take: Su touts investment in India
Sunday, Apr 16, 2006, Page 3
Taiwan and Japan can step up investment in India as one way to cut risks associated with their increased economic interaction with China, Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said yesterday. Su made the remarks while meeting with visiting Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, who is in Taipei to attend the Asian Network of Major Cities, which concluded on Friday. Su noted that although China has recorded rapid economic development in recent years, its economy has still fallen prey to its politics. In addition, China has lax regulations regarding the protection of intellectual property rights, often resorting to theft in the interest of its own technological development. Also, China has often cracked down on domestic dissent in a violent fashion, and has no regard for environmental protection or human rights, the premier said, adding that China is a country "full of uncertainties."
