Taiwan Quick Take: MOFA denies Lee rumors

    Friday, Mar 31, 2006, Page 3

Minister of Foreign Affairs James Huang (黃志芳) said yesterday that the ministry as no plans to replace Taiwan's representative to the US, David Lee (李大維). Fielding questions at the Legislative Yuan, Huang said the foreign ministry did not plan to replace Lee for "failing to block Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) from meeting with high-ranking US officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Robert B. Zoellick, during his recent US visit," as some media outlets have reported. Huang said it was Ma who insisted that no one from the representative office should be present at the meetings.
