Taiwan Quick Take: Puli persists with longstays
Wednesday, Mar 29, 2006, Page 3
A town in Nantou County is continuing to promote a long-stay program for Japanese citizens despite initial setbacks to the scheme. Ma Wen-chun (馬文君), head of Puli (埔里) township, said she was not discouraged, even though the first Japanese couple who came to Puli under the program abruptly cut short their stay and left on a sour note, complaining about the lack of facilities such as dehumidifiers, a dish and clothes dryer in their rented house, which were promised in the brochures. They were also unable to put up with the noise of motorcycles and dog feces on the streets. Ma said she hoped Puli residents would learn from the initial failure and dedicate themselves to keeping their town cleaner.
