Two Pingtung County prosecutors investigating the March 17 train derailment on the Southern Link Line were accused of dereliction of duty and involuntary manslaughter in a lawsuit filed yesterday. Hsu Rong-chi (許榮棋), president of the pirate radio station Voice of Taiwan, filed a criminal suit at the Taipei Prosecutors' Office against Chuang Jung-sung (莊榮松), chief prosecutor at the Pingtung District Prosecutors' Office, and Tsai Rei-tsong (蔡瑞宗), prosecutor general at the Pingtung District Prosecutors' Office. Hsu said that the pair should not have leaked details of an investigation that was still underway to the media, and that by doing so they caused the death by suicide of derailment suspect Lee Shuang-chuan (李雙全). Lee, whose Vietnamese wife was aboard the train with him and died after the derailment, committed suicide early on Thursday morning by hanging himself from a tree in his backyard.

POOR PREPARATION: Cultures can form on food that is out of refrigeration for too long and cooking does not reliably neutralize their toxins, an epidemiologist said Medical professionals yesterday said that suspected food poisoning deaths revolving around a restaurant at Far Eastern Department Store Xinyi A13 Store in Taipei could have been caused by one of several types of bacterium.
