Taiwan Quick Take: MND boss wants to quit

    Saturday, Mar 18, 2006, Page 3

Minister of National Defense Lee Jye (李傑) said yesterday during a legislative meeting that he wanted to resign from his position. It was the second time that Lee has made the remark in a week. Lee, whose term has been haunted by the long-stalled arms procurement budget, said last year that he would resign if the bill was not passed last year. Lee revealed during Wednesday's National Defense Committee meeting that he wanted to quit while answering a question from Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Kao Chien-chih (高建智), who encouraged Lee to stick at pushing the bill through. When Chinese Nationalist Party Legislator Lee Fu-hsing (李復興) asked Lee why he hadn't fulfilled last year's promise to resign, Lee said that he has expressed his wish to resign many times. "I really don't want to be [the minister]."
