While the pan-green camp was able to retain its grip on southern Taiwan, with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidates for Tainan City, as well as Tainan, Chiayi and Kaohsiung counties succeeding in their re-election bids, it gave up seats in other areas to the pan-blue camp.
Aside from losing Chiayi City and Ilan County, the DPP also handed Changhua County to the KMT, with KMT candidate Cho Po-yuan (卓伯源) claiming victory over incumbent Wong Chin-chu (翁金珠) of the DPP by a clear and steady lead.
In Nantou County, the pan-green camp lost to the KMT as a result of the pan-green vote being split between two candidates. KMT candidate Lee Chao-ching (李朝卿) claimed victory over DPP candidate Tsai Huang-liang (蔡煌瑯) and incumbent Lin Tsung-nan (林宗男), who ran as an independent after losing the DPP primary to Tsai.
In Keelung, things got off to a bumpy start in the morning when Taipei Mayor and Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) was severely criticized for accompanying the KMT candidate for Keelung mayor Hsu Tsai-li (許財利) to the polling station.
Ma was accused of trying to sway voters.
But the day ended well for the pan-blue camp in Keelung, however, with the incumbent Hsu emerging victorious, maintaining a clear and steady lead over People First Party (PFP) candidate Liu Wen-hsiung (劉文雄), and Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) candidate Chen Chien-ming (陳建銘).
In Taoyuan County, despite the release of a controversial video that attacked the reputation of KMT Mayor Chu Li-lun (朱立倫) during the campaign, Chu reclaimed his seat, beating DPP candidate Cheng Po-ching (鄭寶清).
In Miaoli County, voters notably elected a non-Hakka candidate to represent them, selecting KMT candidate Liu Cheng-hung (劉政鴻), of Hoklo ethnicity, over DPP candidate Chiu Bing-kun (邱炳坤) and independent candidate Hsu Yao-chang (徐耀昌).
