President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) will meet with Florida Governor Jeb Bush, US President George W. Bush's younger brother, during a transit stop in Miami on his way to Central America this month, a CNA report from Washington said yesterday.
The US State Department is not expected to oppose a courtesy meeting between Chen and Jeb Bush during his stopover, a former State Department official was quoted as saying.
Presidential Office spokesman Chen Wen-tsung (陳文宗) said the itinerary for Chen's visit to Central America would be announced after the date for his meeting with top leaders of Taiwan's diplomatic allies in the region is scheduled.
Chen Wen-tsung said the main purpose of the president's overseas trip is to attend the ROC-Central America summit.
Speaking on the itinerary of the president's transit stop, Chen Wen-tsung said it would be unveiled together with that of the president's Central American trip.
