Hsieh meets Wang today over special legislative session

    By Jimmy Chuang

Premier Frank Hsieh (Áªø§Ê) yesterday agreed to participate in a meeting today hosted by Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (¤ýª÷¥) to discuss calling an extraordinary legislative session.

Cabinet Spokesman Cho Jung-tai (¨ôºa®õ) said that Hsieh decided to attend the meeting in person because he wanted to show his sincerity in urging lawmakers to convene the session to review and pass legislation that would address the needs of the public.

The pan-blue legislative caucuses have already said that even if there were an extraordinary session, the NT$80 billion [US$2.5 billion] budget for flood-prevention infrastructure would be the only proposal on the table.

Cho said that the premier would also express his gratitude to Wang.

"It's a smart move and we do appreciate it, as will the people in southern Taiwan whose properties were flooded during Typhoon Haitang," Cho said.
