Presidential Office Secretary-General Yu Shyi-kun left for the US yesterday for a week-long visit, during which he will deliver speeches at colloquiums to be held in New York and Washington, sources in the Presidential Office said.
Yu is scheduled to deliver a speech at a New York-based think tank tomorrow on the prospects of regional peace in East Asia, in which he is expected to offer his opinions on cross-strait relations, the situation in East Asia and relations among the US, Japan, Taiwan and China, as well as the economic and strategic situation in East Asia.
On Wednesday, Yu is also scheduled to attend the commencement ceremony of his son, who is obtaining his master's degree in international relations from Columbia University in New York.
On Thursday, Yu is slated to deliver another speech at a luncheon in Washington that a number of US officials, members of the US Congressional Taiwan Caucus and think tank scholars are expected to attend. It will make Yu the highest-level Taiwanese official to speak in the US capital, according to Presidential Office staff.
