Business task force to advise court

By Jimmy Chuang  /  STAFF REPORTER

The Judicial Yuan yesterday announced that a business consultation task force will be established to help judges deal with fraud cases.

According to a press release from the Judicial Yuan, the head of the Criminal Department will lead the task force. Officials will begin the task of inviting 12 business professionals to form the task force and provide expert opinion, analysis or other consulting tasks in appropriate cases upon the request of a court.

"We have recently had serious cases of scamming and fraud, and these cases seriously affected the domestic economy. However, since most of the cases were complicated and required professional expertise in economics, the court needed help from people with such expertise in business or economics," the press release said.

The Judicial Yuan said that the task force has been established and will begin work tomorrow.

"To make the task force work well, we need smooth communication between the 12 professional task force members and the judges. As a result, we will commence with seminars that will help both sides understand each other," the Judicial Yuan press release said.

Officials said that task force members will meet whenever a request is filed by any judge in need. In addition, the task force will also appoint members randomly when helping judges on specific cases.

However, the Judicial Yuan has yet to make public the names of the task force members ahead of the group's launch, to be held tomorrow.
