    New ID available in July

    CNA, TAIPEI
    Friday, Mar 11, 2005, Page 4

The Ministry of the Interior will replace the existing national identification cards with a new forgery-proof version from July 1 until June 30, 2006, officials said yesterday.

Starting June 1, local household registration offices will notify people to submit one photo to be used on the new cards, the officials said.

The photo must be clear and in color and have been taken within the last six months, they said.

Hats or sunglasses should not be worn. The name and ID card number of the person in the photo as well as the date when the photo was taken must be written on the back of the photo, they said.

People must pick up their new ID cards in person, while a home delivery service will be provided to those suffering from a serious disease or those who are incapacitated.

The new cards will be pale purple and have 21 forgery-proof features. Information regarding ID card renewal is available online (www.ris.gov.tw).
