Moderate temblor hits near Hualien, no injuries reported


A moderate earthquake jolted eastern Taiwan yesterday, the Central Weather Bureau said, but no damage or casualties were reported.

The magnitude-4.8 quake's epicenter was about 1km southeast of Hualien, according to the bureau. Hualien lies on Taiwan's east coast, about 140km southeast of the capital, Taipei. On Tuesday, a 4.3-magnitude quake shook northeastern Taiwan, with no damage, the bureau said.
