Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Lien Chen (連戰) yesterday called for consultations between the ruling and opposition parties for the sake of political and economic stability.
Lien made the remarks during a regular KMT Central Standing Committee meeting.
He said that for the sake of political, economic and cross-strait stability, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the opposition must cooperate.
"One should not misconstrue such consultations as being aimed at grabbing power, but instead at sharing responsibility," Lien said.
He also said that the DPP, hemmed by its de-sinicization campaign and independence ideology, is incapable of handling relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
