The Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) said yesterday it will promote the use of "Taiwan Repub-lic" envelopes as part of its campaign to rectify the name of Taiwan and formulate a new constitution for the country.
TSU legislative whip Chen Chien-ming (陳建銘) said that although the "new name and new constitution" campaign is a solemn cause, it can be addressed in a cheerful, light-hearted manner.
"We'll promote the `new name and new constitution' campaign in an amusing manner by encouraging the use of newly designed `Taiwan Republic' envelopes," Chen said.
He displayed a pile of the new "Taiwan Republic" envelopes donated by a TSU supporter at a news conference. Their format is identical to the standard envelope issued by state-owned Chunghwa Post Co except for the addition of the words "Taiwan Republic" on the top of the address blank.
Chen said the TSU will distribute the "Taiwan Republic" envelopes to its supporters.
