The "Teacher Chang" telephone hotline turned 35 years old yesterday, having provided consultation to some 1.7 million callers nationwide. The number of consultation services totaling 60,758 last year, a 15-fold increase compared with the 4,094 posted in the inaugural year, said officials from China Youth Corps (CYC), sponsor of the hotline.

Most of the "Teacher Chang" consultations have been provided via telephone calls, although "Teacher Chang" also provides consulting via other means, including face-to-face talks, letters and e-mail.

In the last 10 years, according to the CYC, some 17,000 high school students called "Teacher Chang" for help or consulting, followed by 14,000 university students and 12,000 junior college students, to vent their fear or anger, or to seek expert advice.
