The head of the semi-official Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said he and a delegation from a South Korean company will climb Yushan, the highest mountain in northeast Asia, today, as part of an effort to promote tourism for business visitors.

TAITRA Hsu Chih-jen (³\§Ó¤¯) noted that foreigners made 2.24 million visits to Taiwan last year, with those naming business as their main purpose for visiting accounting for the most at 698,000, or 31.08 percent, showing that this is an area worth development.

He said that TAITRA has been working with local travel agents to choose a score of attractive tour routes that will hopefully prompt business visitors to come to Taiwan or extend their stays in Taiwan when they visit for exhibitions, conferences and other trade activities in Taiwan.

Hsu he invited Yoon Young-dal, president of Crown Confectionery Co., to climb Yushan when he visited South Korea last June. The South Korean company then organized a 19-member team for the trip.

Hsu that he hopes to share the beauty of Taiwan's mountains with the South Korean visitors and help promote tourism for business visitors.
