She made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting of a human rights advisory committee to the Presidential Office she heads when she was asked about her views on the upcoming visit to China by US Secretary of State Colin Powell, with the US arms sale to Taiwan expected to be on the agenda.
Lu said that if there were a good friend such as Powell to serve as the mediator across the Taiwan Strait, "it would be a good thing."
She also said, "No one wants war, and if there is any situation in the Taiwan Strait, we welcome a third party to convey correct messages across the Strait."
