A team of volunteer doctors will leave for Mozambique next week to help train medical workers at two medical centers established in the African country with support from Taiwan, organizers said yesterday.
The volunteer program has been jointly organized by World Vision Taiwan and the Fubon Charitable Foundation.
Taking with them medical facilities and medicine worth NT$600,000 (US$17,647), the seven volunteer doctors will depart on Sept. 25, World Vision Taiwan officials said.
Construction of the two medical centers, which started in October last year with assistance and funding from the two organizations, is expected to be completed later this month.
They are located in a community with 70,000 people but only two healthcare stations and five nurses, according to the officials.
The two charity organizations have also helped the community dig a number of wells to cope with a shortage of clean water -- facilities that will be available for use later this month, they said.
