A symposium on the drafting of a civil version of the "319 Shooting Truth Investigation Special Committee Statute (三一九真調會條例)," was held yesterday, with scholars and experts divided on the controversial bill to establish an independent investigation committee.
The event was co-organized by several civil groups in Taipei
Chen Jui-jen (
In the face of this serious incident, the PRA wants the investigation right be granted to the 319 Shooting Truth Investigation Special Committee and that it be allowed to operate in line with several "compromise articles" to get to the bottom of the shooting, Chen said. Such a move, however, would violate the investigation system, he said.
Professor Chen Tzu-yang (
Claiming that the "319 Shooting Truth Investigation Special Committee Statute, " approved by the legislature at an extraordinary session, is unconstitutional, Chen noted that he does not oppose the committee's establishment, but added that the investigation should be jointly conducted by the Judicial Yuan and the Control Yuan in cooperation with judicial personnel.
Yang Yun-hua (
Others supported the creation of the committee.
Chen Jung-chuan (
Taipei Society President Hung Yu-hung (
Hung went on to say that members of the committee should not be appointed in line with the number of legislative seats held by each political party.

In a video clip provided by the Coalition of Students Resisting the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), Taiwanese-American Cosette Wu (吳亭樺) and Tibetan-American Tsering Yangchen are seen holding banners that together read:

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
