    Taipei City ranked most competitive of cities or counties

    A survey by a business magazine found that Taipei City is the most competitive city or county in the country, while Ilan County tops the list in tourism marketing.

    The survey, released yesterday by the Global Views Monthly (»·¨£Âø»x), said the top five competitive cities or counties are Taipei City, Taichung City, Taipei County, Hsinchu County and Taoyuan County.

    Taipei ranked as the city with the best economic performance, the city with the most attractions and the city with the most unique architecture.

    The amount of the new infrastructure in Taipei placed it 15th among the 23 cities and counties, which the survey organizers said indicated that it vast disparities between rural and urban areas are disappearing.

    The survey measured 61 indicators, including economic competitiveness, government efficiency, quality of life and societal vibrancy, and the results were based on 10,000 respondents.

    The International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival and Green Expo held by Ilan County were judged as the most two impressive festivals in the country.

    Pingtung County's Black Tuna Festival was ranked as the third impressive festival.

    But while Ilan topped the list for its strategies to attrack more tourists, survey respondents also said the country needs to do more to improve its traffic controls and provide incentives for investors.
