Most traditional overseas Chinese groups in the US remain loyal to the Republic of China (ROC), Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission Chairwoman Chang Fu-mei (±i´I¬ü) said yesterday.
Chang made the remarks during a breakfast meeting of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) legislative caucus. She told KMT lawmakers that most of these groups will not shift their allegiance to China as long as Taiwan maintains the ROC name.
She said, however, that some of these groups' protests against President Chen Shui-bian's (³¯¤ô«ó) re-election have adversely affected Taiwan-US relations.
She said the commission has stepped up collection of information about Chinese communities in the US.
