Three people were killed and another five injured late on Tuesday when a framework structure collapsed during the construction of a tunnel on an auxiliary line of the National Freeway No. 3 in the Hsinyi Road area.
Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) said that the accident occurred at about 8:58pm when eight workers were present at the construction site.

While the accident is still under investigation, the Taipei City Government Bureau of Labor yesterday attributed the accident to rushed construction.

"The concrete needs to sit for at least 24 hours, according to the law. However, supportive structures were removed after just 12 hours," Yan said.
Yan further revealed that the construction company involved had already been penalized on several occasions by the Taipei City Government for violating construction regulations, accumulating at least NT$1 million in fines.
Of the eight construction workers involved in the accident, five were foreigners. Two workers from Thailand, aged 25 and 41, were pronounced dead on arrival at hospital emergency rooms late on Tuesday night, a Taiwanese worker passed away yesterday afternoon.
Four of the workers were rushed to the Taipei Medical University Center hospital, another two to the Taipei City Zhongxiao Municipal Hospital and the remaining two to the Taipei City Renai Municipal Hospital.
