    Janitor finds a fortune

    STAFF WRITER

What would you do if you found NT$20 million?

Faced with that question on Wednesday, a Taichung bank janitor unhesitatingly turned the money over to the bank.

Guards from a security company transporting NT$40 million from a Taichung branch of the Bank of Taiwan apparently drove off without noticing they had left a plastic box containing half the cash behind.

Hsu Mao-hsiung (³\Z¶¯), the bank's branch manager, said that janitor Wu Wei-liang (§dºû«G) found the box at 2:40pm Wednesday when he was walking by the basement delivery dock of the bank building.

Wu opened the box, discovered the money and immediately alerted the bank's head cashier.

An investigation showed that the NT$20 million had been left behind by a security company collecting the money for a Taichung company.

After clearing the money with the cashier, the security guards had divided the cash into two boxes before loading only one of them into their van.
