Speaking to some 800 people at a dinner party, Lien said one of the principles is "to be loyal to the Republic of China and respect the ROC Constitution."

He said the third principle is to promote social justice and equality.
On cross-strait relations, Lien said both sides should not lose sight of the more distant future. They should instead set aside their dispute over sovereignty for the time being, and improve their relations on the basis of equality, mutual assistance and mutual benefits.
Lien was enthusiastically greeted when he visited the Overseas Chinese Benevolent Association in New York before the dinner party.
Meanwhile, Mainland Affairs Council Vice Chairman Chen Ming-tong (
Chen is one of the few experts in the government who are versed in China's grass-roots politics and major political factions.
He was a chief writer of President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) white paper on cross-strait policy during the 2000 presidential campaign.
Chen Ming-tong's speech will be delivered at a dinner party at the Taiwan Hall on Sunday.
During his stay, Chen Ming-tong will also attend a seminar on the cross-strait relations as well as the government's plan to hold a referendum on policy issues before or on the next March's election.
The seminar will be sponsored by the Chinese Constitutional Reform Association, founded by Wang activist who is now working on a doctoral degree at Harvard University.
Wang said cross-strait relations are a critical factor in China's future political development and constitutional reform. In his view, he said, Washington-Beijing relations are crucial to China's modernization and political development.
"And a major barrier to US-China relations is the possible outbreak of cross-strait conflicts," he said.
At the seminar, Chen Ming-tong is expected to expound on the background and reasoning of the governments decision to hold a referendum.
Several Chinese scholars will present their views on the referendum plan.
Andrew Nathan, chairman of Columbia University's political science department, will also speak at the seminar.
A group of Taiwanese-American and Tibetan-American students at Harvard University on Saturday disrupted Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng’s (謝鋒) speech at the school, accusing him of being responsible for numerous human rights violations. Four students — two Taiwanese Americans and two from Tibet — held up banners inside a conference hall where Xie was delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the Harvard Kennedy School China Conference 2024. In a video clip provided by the Coalition of Students Resisting the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), Taiwanese-American Cosette Wu (吳亭樺) and Tibetan-American Tsering Yangchen are seen holding banners that together read:
