Kinmen County Commissioner Lee Chu-feng (李炷烽), accompanied by Mainland Affairs Council Secretary-General Pao Cheng-kang (鮑正鋼) and a 60-member Kinmen delegation, traveled yesterday to Xiamen City in Fujian Province for a trade and tourism promotion trip.
Lee and his delegation will mainly take part in the high-profile Seventh China International Fair for Investment and Trade, which opens at the International Conference and Exhibition Center in Xiamen today.
Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa (董建華) and Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho (何厚鏵) will reportedly lead missions to Xiamen to take part in the four-day fair -- the only investment promotion in China to attract direct foreign investment and one of the major trade fairs in the country.
Members of Lee's delegation include prominent figures from Kinmen's public and private sectors.
In addition to taking part in the fair, Lee said prior to his departure that he is also expected to meet with officials from the Fujian Provincial Government for talks on the feasibility of allowing Fujian residents to travel to Kinmen for tourism and sightseeing.
Lee added that he and his group will also gain further understanding of the sales potential of Kinmen's Kaoliang liquor in Fujian Province, as well as marketing strategies and deployment there.
