Taipei Bar Association announces award winners

The Taipei Bar Association yesterday held a press conference to announce the six winners of its literature awards.

"This is the first time that we organized a competition of this nature," said Nigel Lee (§õ©À¯ª), chairman of the Taipei Bar Association.

"We hope that we can introduce more legal thoughts to the public by organizing similar activities. That was the spirit of the competition," he said.

According to Lee, Hsueh Chin-feng (Á§´Ü®p), a lawyer and member of the bar association, at the end of last year came up with the idea to hold a competition. The competition regulations required the participants to write and submit law-related stories.

The winner would receive a prize of NT$250,000. In addition, there would also be two "winners of distinction" and three "winners of credit."

The winners of distinction would receive a second prize of NT$100,000 each.

The winners of credit would receive medals.

"By the end of July, we had received 26 stories and it took us two months to decide on the six winners announced today," Hsueh said.

The first-prize winner was Wu Yin-ning (§dµ¹ç), who is a former copy editor at a Chinese-language newspaper and holds a bachelor's degree from Soochow University's law department.

The winners of distinction were lawyer Wang Shao-ming (¨L²Ð»Ê) and retired serviceman Kuo Kuo-ying (³¢°ê·).

The three winners of credit were Huang Chung-hui (¶Àã¼z), a Soochow University law student, Chen Yu-chuan (³¯¥É³©), an aide at the Kaohsiung District Court and a graduate with a bachelor's degree from the National Taiwan University's law department, and lawyer Lin Hsien-tsung (ªL½å©v).

According to Hsueh, all six stories will be published in next month's edition of the bar association's magazine. The association is also planning to publish these stories in book form.
