President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) encouraged young people yesterday to have dreams and to make them come true through diligence and action.
Chen made the remarks while meeting with a group of outstanding students who will soon leave for the US to participate in the World Leadership Congress to be held in Washington later this month.
The president congratulated the delegates for their selection to attend the annual conference.
"It's a great honor for you and a recognition of your performance," he said.
"In the pursuit of your dreams, don't be daunted by any setback or obstacle," he added.
Chen also asked the delegates to take advantage of the event to introduce Taiwan's history, culture and natural beauty, as well as its hospitable and peace-loving people, to the participants from other countries.
"During the conference, you should make every possible effort to help other conference delegates come to a better understanding of various aspects of Taiwan and its national cause," Chen said.
Each year, the World Leadership Congress brings together some 400 "young ambassadors" from around the world to share their opinions and enthusiasm with each other and with leaders from all walks of life.
