Arsonist strikes near legislature office

Tsai Wen-chen, front, is taken in by police for starting a fire near a Legislative Yuan building in Taipei early yesterday morning.

A man started a fire near a Legislative Yuan office in Taipei's Poai District early yesterday morning. No one was injured in the incident and the motive is not known.

Police say the suspect, identified as Tsai Wen-chen (蔡文振), poured gasoline on the lawn next to the Tsingtao No. 3 building and started a blaze.

Police from a nearby station promptly arrested him and put out the fire.

The PFP's legislative caucus office, the legislature's computer center and other administrative offices are located in the building.

Police have stepped up security in the area following last Thursday's assault on the Ministry of Communications and Transportation in which a truck driver rammed his vehicle into the ministry's front entrance and exploded 10 gasoline containers in the truck.
