KMT vice chairman denies fresh rumors of defection

REPORT WRONG Colleagues referred to a recent report in a local Chinese-language daily, which they described as nothing but rumors and 'a work of art'

When asked why Siew, among the KMT's six chairpersons, seems to be the only person whose name was often found to be linked with the DPP, Shyu said that "it is because the DPP has a misconception about Siew."

"Just because Siew is a member of the KMT's pro-localization faction, it does not mean that he is tilting toward the DPP," said Shyu, himself also a member of the party's pro-localization faction.

Shyu however noted that "it is understandable" if Siew was feeling somewhat at a loss because Lien, despite Siew having been the former premier, had bypassed Siew but decided to partner with PFP chairman James Soong (宋楚瑜) for next March's presidential election.

Siew was premier from 1997 to 2000 and in the 2000 presidential election ran as Lien's running mate in an unsuccessful bid for the highest office.
