The Ministry of Justice's Panchiao Administrative Enforcement Dep-artment yesterday said that its executive officers have confiscated the food-production facilities of the King Join Group and will auction off both the facilities and the company's trade mark to pay its tax arrears.
"The department has to do this because the company has owed NT$34 million to the Tax Bureau since last year but the owner is still trying to avoid paying the debt," the department said in a statement issued yesterday.
"The company's tax bill is huge. Unfortunately, the production facilities we confiscated are not worth that much. As a result, we hope that the trade mark could be auctioned off at a satisfactory price," the statement said.
However, as of press time last night, the department had not decided on a date for the auction.
The King Join Group is famous for its imperial Chinese court-style-food restaurant chain. It has five restaurants in Taipei City, another two in Shanghai, one in Hong Kong and another one in Vancouver.
Beginning in 1992, the company started to provide cabin food for the Cathay Pacific Airways, Eva Airways, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Japan Asia Airways, Far Eastern Air Transport, TransAsia Airways, China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines.
According to officials at the Panchiao Administrative Enforcement Department, Yin Hung-ta (尹鴻達) is the president of King Join but his son, general manager Yin Ta-wei (尹大為), runs the business.

She said that the company will face its problem and solve it eventually.
"Our business is in great shape. We plan to pay NT$80,000 every month until we clear our debt," she said.
All of King Join's restaurants in Taipei were open for business yesterday.
The Yins immigrated to Canada decades ago and Yin Ta-wei spends most of the year in Vancouver.
A company employee, surnamed Zhuo, who did not want to give her full name, said that both Yin Hung-ta and Yin Ta-wei are in the country.
Convictions for tax evasion could result in a prison sentence of up to six months. If a convicted offender still does not pay off his or her arrears, they are subject to further arrest and court proceedings until they do pay the bill.
The Panchiao Administrative Enforcement Department's executive officers carry out the court's administrative orders, such as confiscating the personal belongings of tax-evaders, registering newly convicted criminals and escorting new convicts to prisons. They are also authorized to arrest company owners wanted for tax evasion.
