Burkina Faso Prime Minister Paramanga Ernest Yonli vowed yesterday to boost his country's ties with Taiwan as he wrapped up his five-day visit to Taipei.

The joint communique summarized Yonli's visit and his discussions with local officials on concrete measures to improve ties.
In a subsequent press conference, the 47-year-old Yonli said through an interpreter that he's "very confident" about future ties between the two countries.
Yonli said he had discussed future cooperation schemes, including the improvement of the water supply system, infrastructure and health system in Burkina Faso.
Yonli obtained a doctorate from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands before he returned to Burkina Faso to begin his career in politics. He assumed his current post in November 2000.
Yonli was invited by Premier Yu Shyi-kun to visit Taiwan this week. Taiwan and Burkina Faso resumed diplomatic ties in 1994.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs saw a small reshuffle yesterday as up to five mid-level officials were sworn in to new posts.

The Taipei Department of Health yesterday said it has launched a probe into a restaurant at Far Eastern Sogo Xinyi A13 Department Store after a customer died of suspected food poisoning. A preliminary investigation on Sunday found missing employee health status reports and unsanitary kitchen utensils at Polam Kopitiam (寶林茶室) in the department store’s basement food court, the department said.
