Tsai again displayed photos showing cracks on pillars supporting the railway's elevated track in the railway's section in Tainan.
Tsai claimed the photos were taken on Thursday. "The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) has lied when it said [on Monday] it has improved the pillar cracks," Tsai said.
Tsai also accused Nita Ing (
Tsai also alleged that George Liu (劉國治), president of THSRC, has been illegally lobbying the government to allow one of the corporation's Japanese contractors to use inferior materials for the railway's cable pipes.

THSRC issued a statement in response saying Tsai has violated Articles 309 and 310 of the Criminal Code by publicly insulting and defaming other people.
"THSRC has asked Tsai to apologize publicly to the corporation," the statement said.
If Tsai fails to respond to the request, THSRC will seek compensation from Tsai and those involved in the allegation through judicial procedures, the statement said.
Lin, however, said it is THSRC's responsibility to calm the public's concerns about the railway's safety.
Lin said THSRC is responsible for the railway's construction and operation.
"If THSRC allows its contractors to use inferior materials, the corporation will have to suffer the consequences," Lin said.
Responding to Tsai's photos showing the railway's flawed pillars, Lin said it is unnecessary to demolish all flawed constructions.
"The pillars are like our teeth. When we have tooth problems, we don't always extract the whole tooth. We just fix the specific problems," Lin said.
Last Saturday, Tsai held a press conference to display a number of photos showing pillar cracks in the railway's C280, C291 and C295 sections in Tainan and Kaohsiung areas.
This Monday, THSRC held a press conference to respond to Tsai's allegation about the railway's safety.
The corporation distributed to reporters photocopies of portions of a non-conformance report that stated all defects in C280, C291 and C295 sections have been corrected or are in the process of being fixed.
Lin noted yesterday, "All THSRC's contractors have their own independent site engineers to supervise construction and oversee safety."
Apart from THSRC's independent site engineers, THSRC also hired the International Railway Engineering Group (IREG) to supervise the overall performances of its contractors, Lin said.
IREG consists of four companies -- DE-Consult, Electrowatt Engineering AG, Mott MacDonald Ltd and SYSTRA.
"The railway's construction has to pass various quality assurance plans that are carried out with strict scientific examinations," THSRC's statement said yesterday.
"Tsai's unprofessional and intentional allegations cannot smear THSRC's quality assurance plans," the statement said.
In THSRC's Monday press conference, the corporation revealed documents from Tsai's correspondence with the Bureau of Taiwan High Speed Rail (BOTHSR) since last December.
The documents showed Tsai has been very interested in the design of the railway's cable troughs.
According to the documents, Tsai not only asked THSRC to provide designs of the cable troughs but also brought unidentified figures from certain construction companies to promote a material for the railway's cable pipes.
After THSRC's Monday press conference that indicated Tsai attempted to benefit certain interest groups through selling cable pipe material to the railway's contractor, Tsai accused the corporation of defamation and asked for NT$100 million compensation.
According to THSRC's statement yesterday, the corporation has yet to design the details of the cable troughs.
"Why is Tsai so eager to know the design of the cable troughs? Why did he suggest that THSRC should use a certain material for the cable pipes?" the statement asked.
The statement said the public and the KMT should examine Tsai's motives behind his interest in knowing the design of the cable troughs.
FLU SEASON: Twenty-six severe cases were reported from Tuesday last week to Monday, including a seven-year-old girl diagnosed with influenza-associated encephalopathy Nearly 140,000 people sought medical assistance for diarrhea last week, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said on Tuesday. A group of Taiwanese-American and Tibetan-American students at Harvard University on Saturday disrupted Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng’s (謝鋒) speech at the school, accusing him of being responsible for numerous human rights violations. Four students — two Taiwanese Americans and two from Tibet — held up banners inside a conference hall where Xie was delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the Harvard Kennedy School China Conference 2024. In a video clip provided by the Coalition of Students Resisting the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), Taiwanese-American Cosette Wu (吳亭樺) and Tibetan-American Tsering Yangchen are seen holding banners that together read:
UNAWARE: Many people sit for long hours every day and eat unhealthy foods, putting them at greater risk of developing one of the ‘three highs,’ an expert said More than 30 percent of adults aged 40 or older who underwent a government-funded health exam were unaware they had at least one of the “three highs” — high blood pressure, high blood lipids or high blood sugar, the Health Promotion Administration (HPA) said yesterday. Among adults aged 40 or older who said they did not have any of the “three highs” before taking the health exam, more than 30 percent were found to have at least one of them, Adult Preventive Health Examination Service data from 2022 showed. People with long-term medical conditions such as hypertension or diabetes usually do not
Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. As of 3:30pm yesterday, Tainan’s Yujing District (玉井) had recorded the day’s highest temperature of 39.7°C, though the measurement will not be included in Taiwan’s official heat records since Yujing is an automatic rather than manually operated weather station, the CWA said. Highs recorded in other areas were 38.7°C in Kaohsiung’s Neimen District (內門), 38.2°C in Chiayi City and 38.1°C in Pingtung’s Sandimen Township (三地門), CWA data showed. The spell of scorching
