A Taiwanese man arrested after making a bomb threat on a plane leaving Macau may face up to 10 years in prison. The threat stopped a Taipei-bound airplane taking off from Macau.
The 29-year-old, wearing a hood to conceal his identity, appeared at the Public Prosecutor's Office in the southern Chinese enclave on Monday afternoon. The unnamed suspect, a student of traditional Chinese medicine in Guangzhou, was arrested by police on Sunday night for allegedly making a bomb threat as the plane taxied down the runway.
He apparently made the threat after a flight attendant refused his demands to let him off the plane.
The pilot aborted take-off and radioed for police assistance and the suspect was grabbed by crew and passengers.
The 162 crew and passengers on board were evacuated from the plane and the plane's departure was delayed for several hours, arriving in Taipei early on Monday.
