Trong Chai reluctant to quit TV post

STAFF REPORTER

DPP Legislator Trong Chai (蔡同榮) says he's not ready to make a decision about giving up his media posts yet -- even as another politician announced her resignation from a media job yesterday.

PFP Legislator Shen Chih-hwei (沈智慧) announced she was stepping down as chairwoman of the Taichong National Radio Station. Her move came one day after legislative speaker Wang Jin-pyng's (王金平) quit his media job.

Later today, the DPP's Central Standing Committee is scheduled to discuss how to remove political and military influences from the media.

Chai, who is also chairman of Formosa Television, one of the country's four terrestrial TV stations, has opposed the party's policy.

He reiterated yesterday that he would decide whether to step down from the Central Standing Committee after today's meeting. However, he emphasized that he would not quit his committee post if the party thought such a resignation would not be effective.

DPP Legislator Shen Fu-hsiung (沈富雄), yesterday urged Chai to either quit Formosa TV or the Legislative Yuan, saying that stepping down from the party committee would not count for much.

Chai said resigning from Formosa TV would not help the public and that is why he doesn't want to make a decision right now.
