Premier Yu Shyi-kun plans to visit opposition party leaders soon to solicit support for the Cabinet's two projects to expand public construction and services designed to help lower unemployment, Executive Yuan officials said yesterday.

Officials of the Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD), who drew up the plans, said that the projects are expected to create 75,000 job opportunities and drive the economic growth rate up to 3.52 percent in the next year, as well as lower the unemployment rate to less than 4.5 percent.
The plan for public works, which will cost NT$50 billion, is expected to push the economic growth rate up 0.38 percentage points higher than the original estimate, according to officials.
The plan for increasing public service jobs, which will cost NT$20 billion, will provide jobs for 75,000 unskilled and unemployed workers, the officials went on.

According to the Executive Yuan, the two one-year projects are jointly estimated to assist 500,000 people during the economic depression.
