Tamkang University said yesterday that it saves nearly NT$1 million (US$28,700) a day by using e-mail for intra-campus communications instead of posting letters.
University secretary-general Wuan Tong said that nearly 250,000 e-mails are sent every day regarding school matters.
Based on this figure, she explained, the university saves NT$875,000 a day in postage, printing and handling costs.
The number of e-mail users registered with the university's information center has been increasing rapidly from around 30,000 to nearly 50,000 since an e-mail handling network was established at the center three years ago, Wuan said.
